How to play FlagCake
Recognize a country without seeing its flag. FlagCake shows a pie chart of the flag's colors, and you have five guesses to find the answer.
Your first round
- Look at the chart and its color percentages. The biggest slice represents the color covering the most space in the flag image.
- Type a country in the search field. Select a suggestion with a click or the arrow keys and Enter, then press Guess.
- If your answer is wrong, use the new geography hint to reconsider. Each wrong guess uses one of your five attempts.
- A correct answer ends the round with the country and original flag. After five wrong answers, the answer is revealed too.
You can review the revealed flag to see which stripes or symbols produced its chart. This is useful even after a win: a small slice may have come from a detail you had forgotten.
What do the hints mean?
Hints describe the mystery country, not your previous guess. Open the Hints section to review them as they unlock:
- Bordering countries: the first wrong guess reveals land neighbors, or tells you there are no land borders.
- Area: the second reveals the country's area in square kilometers.
- Capital: the third reveals its capital.
- Continent: the fourth reveals its region.
Countries can share very similar color charts. A neighbor or capital hint can settle a choice that the colors alone cannot.
Daily versus Endless
Daily selects the same country for everyone on a given UTC date. A new daily round started after midnight UTC uses the next puzzle. If an old round is still on screen, refresh to start the current day's puzzle.
Endless gives you more rounds immediately, for free. Its region selector lets you practice Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Oceania, or keep the worldwide pool.
Changing mode or region starts a new round and clears the current guesses. Finish your round first if you want to keep its result.
Results, sharing and statistics
The result window shows the answer and your personal statistics. Share result copies a text summary without naming the answer. Play another flag starts another round in Endless mode.
Statistics are stored locally in this browser, not in an account. Your current streak measures consecutive wins across games, not consecutive days. Clearing browser data or resetting statistics removes that history. See the privacy notice for details.
Start with the largest colors
First identify the dominant color, then compare the balance of the remaining slices. Keep small symbols in mind, but do not treat a rounded percentage as an exact measurement. Our flag color guide explains the calculation and shows examples.
